Why is marriage so important?
Marriage is a picture of our covenant relationship. To break that vow and leave that covenant relationship for no reason other than the pursuit of self is to abandon me and go your own way. Marriage is a death to self that mirrors your relationship with me. If you will break this vow in defiance of me, can it really be said that you have been crucified with me? No, it cannot. As I quoted to you many times, “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but forfeit his own soul.” Nothing less than your soul is at stake. To abandon your spouse in pursuit of self is to abandon me for the same. Little in this life reveals more about the state of your soul than your attitude about marriage.
